Apple SDK March 6!

The long awaited Apple iPhone software development kit is coming, it appears, on March 6. This is only a few days late. It’s not completely clear yet whether or not the kit will actually be released or whether it is just in beta and will be announced for testing purposes.

EDIT: Apple promises “exciting” new enterprise features. COULD IT BE? Might we soon have long-awaited Microsoft ActiveSync support? Only time will tell….

A Democratic bill in the House of Representatives would force AT&T and Apple to abandon their successful business model, interfering with the markets in order to allow customers to activate the iPhone without a subsidized contract. Rep. Ed Markey, the very liberal Democrat congressman from Massachusetts, wants the FCC to regulate the contracts between AT&T and its customers and force Apple to make the iPhone available without a contract. Though this might be good for the few people who want to use T-Mobile instead of AT&T, the net result would be MUCH higher prices for everyone. This is another example of the Democrats over-regulating the economy and trying to get involved in the tech sector, something about which they know absolutely zilch.

Congress ought to spend more time passing the legislation necessary to protect the American people from terrorists instead of going after enterprising businesses.

Newt Gingrich is setting up shop for his 527, American Solutions, right down the road from Google and Yahoo! in the heart of California’s most liberal region. Gingrich said the group wants to “reach out to every interesting, innovative, entrepreneurial start-up. We want to learn the best ways to communicate, the best ways to socially network, the best ways to use information technology to improve public services.”

Yep. Conservatives are invading the tech sector. CNet news noted that though there are some free-market groups in the area (notably Pacific Research Institute and the Independent Institute) there just aren’t many national political conservative organizations. This makes Gingrich’s entrance even more important.

Groups like Gingrich’s and TheVanguard.Org, the brain child of founder and Chairman Rod D. Martin, are on the cutting edge of both the conservative movement and the tech revolution.

Facebook is making over its website in the coming weeks with a cleaner look inspired by its iPhone site, arguably the best iPhone optimized site available.

Facebook will continue to dominate that space, it appears, by staying ahead of the competition and creating a cleaner, stylized and more useful interface than MySpace.

Many of us actually interested in the science behind all this global warming foolishness have been saying for years that the theory (and it is just that - a theory) is horribly misguided to the point of being misleading. Now there’s more confirmation… real world confirmation. DailyTech reports in its blog that world temperature monitors have recorded the biggest and quickest temperature drop - ever - as a result of the current downward trend in solar activity.

This is of course not manufactured by man and it is worse than “global warming” for two reasons:
(1) Global warming is historically good for human civilization and helps alleviate starvation and energy shortages
(2) Global cooling as a result of reduced solar activity is completely outside of our ability to correct, unlike the wholly incorrect theory of Global warming which asserts man’s influence over the climate.

This is great. A Pennsylvania man stabbed his brother-in-law during a political debate. The Clintonite went to jail and the Obama supporter went to the hospital - in critical condition.

For those of us who use OS X in an enterprise environment, it can be difficult to make our Exchange calendars sync with our iPhones. There is an excellent workaround, however. All of the updated versions of Office for Mac include a synchronization service that makes it easy as pie.

In Entourage, go to Entourage > Preferences > Sync Services.

There you have an option to sync your address book, calendar, or both with Apple’s built-in software. This works great for synching the iPhone.

For those of you who use Windows Mobile, you’re likely no stranger to battery life issues that sometimes come up, especially if you are a power user, spend a lot of time on the telephone during the day or connect to your Exchange email via ActiveSync for “push” email. A Microsoft employee who runs a blog on the subject has a great write-up to get you started on preserving your battery life and getting through the day on your Blackjack, Treo 750, Motorola Q, etc.

CNet’s Matt Asay has a good blog from January about Apple’s dominance and market share growth. It’s a lesson to all those PC manufacturers who would rather enjoy the status quo than innovate.
